Michael K. Griswold joined the Bedford Police Department in 1992 Griswold has 15 years of investigative experience, holding every rank in the BPD’s Investigative Bureau. As a commander of the BPD Detective Division, Griswold oversees Prosecution, School Resource Officer Program, and the Drug Investigation Unit, as well as coordinating the Citizens Police Academy.
The Detective Division is comprised of a Detective Sergeant who is a certified Polygraph Administrator, three Detectives, a School Resource Officer (SRO), and the Prosecutor’s Office which consist of a Prosecution Attorney and Prosecutor Secretary. One Detective is currently assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Program as a Drug Task Force Officer (TFO). The Detective Division also dedicates a Detective to assist the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) with computer related offenses.

Detective Division Goals and Objectives:
- To investigate all unresolved criminal matters that come to the attention of the Bedford Police Department by developing sufficient admissible information, facts and evidence to successfully prosecute those responsible for the commission of all criminal matters within the jurisdiction of the Bedford Police Department.
- To provide the highest quality police prosecutorial services to assure all criminal matters are resolved in the interests of justice, the mission of the Bedford Police Department and in accordance with New Hampshire law and all local court rules.
- To provide public safety services and education to Bedford’s school children and young adults by deploying a robust school resource program to engage with and provide a positive role-model for Bedford’s youth and young adults as well as ensure school campus safety by establishing a uniformed patrol presence during school hours.
- To conduct annual Citizen Academy Programs designed to provide Bedford residents with a more detailed understanding and exposure to the Department’s programs, initiatives and activities.
