Bedford Police Department Swears In Three New Probationary Officers

The following candidates for the position of Probationary Police Officer, Bedford Police Department, have successfully completed the Department's Recruitment and Background Investigation processes and have been approved for employment as probationary police officers effective October 13, 2019.

We are  happy to welcome each of these candidates as Probationary Police Officers in the Bedford Police Department.  These officers represent the future of our Department and each possesses a wealth of background and experience that will help them best serve the Bedford community.

Probationary Officer Michael B. Heikkila comes to us from the Temple/Greenville, NH Police Department where he has served first as a part-time and later as a full-time certified NH police officer for more than three (3) years.  He is a graduate of the 172nd Session of the NH Police Academy and the 271st Session of the NH Police Academy for Part-Time Police Officers. 

Probationary Officer Heikkila earned an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from NHTI and is working toward a BA in Criminal Justice from Plymouth State University.

Probationary Officer Jeffrey A. Drew comes to us from the Portland, Maine Police Department where he had been employed as a full-time police officer since August 2018 after having successfully graduated from the 35th Session of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Probationary Officer Drew served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps from 2007 until he was honorably discharged in 2011.  During his military service with the USMC Probationary Officer Drew served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

After separating from the Marine Corps, Probationary Officer Drew went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security from Daniel Webster College and received a faculty commendation for outstanding academic achievement.  Probationary Officer Drew went on to provide security at the New Boston Air Force Tracking Station prior to his employment with the Portland Police Department.

Probationary Officer Joseph A. Palmariello comes to us from the Plymouth State University Police Department, where he has served as a full-time certified law enforcement officer since 2015 after having graduated from the 168th Session of the NH Police Academy in August 2015.

Probationary Officer Palmariello earned his BA from Plymouth State University in 2013 majoring in criminal justice with minors in psychology and pre-law.

Probationary Officer Palmariello has served with the US Army/US Army Reserves in Medical Services since 2014 and served tours of duty in Kuwait and Iraq.

I am exceedingly pleased to announce the appointments of the above captioned candidates as Probationary Police Officer(s), Bedford Police Department.  These officers, all previously certified as law enforcement professionals in NH (Heikkila, Palmariello) and Maine (Drew) represent the future of the Bedford Police Department.  They bring not only their certifications to our Department but a wealth of background and experience.

I join with all the employees of the Bedford Police Department in welcoming each of the above Probationary Police Officers to the Bedford Police Department. 

We shall promise to provide them the best training and education as well as the necessary skill sets to excel in their assigned duties and responsibilities but also to ensure their safety and the safety of our residents and visitors.
